I LOVE PRODUCTION WORK.
as some of you (my friends) know, i play guitars and write music for the band surgery. we’ve been together for what, two years now? and we’ve finally decided to record a mini-album (6 songs). it’s been a long road from here and i must say, i’m very impressed with the growth.
i’m producing the album, and i love this kind of work. i love making music in this perspective where i can be all control-freaky and stuff. this record is special to me - the same way Grace, And Dragging Her Wings was special, but in a different way (?). i’m on my own in producing this one. and i’m happy with the work so far.
i’ve listened to so many music, i have a million and one pegs for the guitar sound/overall sound of this album. tonight, i wrapped up the mixing and mastering of four of our pre-prod tracks. i’m happy to announce that this project is indeed moving and we will release official word about the album launch soon.

Them Crooked Vultures - No One Loves Me, And Neither Do I
my peg for the surgery album. we’re starting pre-production today. actually, in 30 minutes.
surgery had a great gig tonight.
i mean not just because of the pole dancers, who by the way i have to commend. i always look out for things i cannot do and that’s certainly one of them. it’s an art what they do and i have nothing but respect and kudos to polecats. cheers!
anyway, one of my friends’ comments about our set was that it got tighter and snappier. i’ve known that to be one of our lacking departments - and it’s unfortunately, a necessity for our kind of sound. good thing we’ve worked hard and we have come a long way. we’ve pulled through so many obstacles and the credit really goes to our growing dynamic. it’s a good thing, how our maturity was heard. and here’s why.
we were relatively amateur to the all-start line-up in saguijo tonight. i was so nervous and it only got to me moments before our set, how young and reckless we’ve been. sometimes that’s a good thing, but now that we’re at the point where we’re unemployed and just got through college, some things really had to be taken seriously. i totally wanted to shit my pants before going onstage because of anxiety, and also how blessed we were.
a friend of mine overheard from the audience that someone acknowledged the garage tone of my guitar. i think that’s one of the main ingredients of our music that separates us from straight-up funk and blues. my influences come from grassroots alternative and i’m glad that it’s evident. tom morello. jonny greenwood. john frusciante. those are my heroes. and finally, we’re venturing into our own music with their help. we’re growing so much.
i had a short chit-chat with kala’s guitarist (i’ve been looking up to that guy since high school). he kept on congratulating me and my band for a good set. barangay tibay even asked us to play with them some time. can you believe that! the congratulations belong to the effort that we’ve all exerted into making this work and i’m honored to be the captain of this ship.
starting next week, we’re setting sail for an album. many thanks to everyone who supported us along the way. believe me, we’ll make it worth it.
