rock the riles is an annual event hosted by rocked. it's held every first sunday of december to celebrate human rights day.
three years ago, it was different. the focus of the 8 mrt stations were their respective millennium development goals, as set by the UN for any member country to accomplish by 2015. it was a good day - we were successful in making people aware. the changes probably aren’t obvious, but i’m sure that RTR ‘06 changed lives, because it changed mine and my friends’.
this year, we are encouraging, among all things, awareness. awareness of the current status quo that is bombarded and tarnished by mass-killing, and what hurts me the most: taking away from the innocent civilian. the maguindanao massacre has shown to us a disappointing reflection of our country.
we’re not going to just sit like wounded ducks in the midst of foolish political power plays. today, we’re going to make a stand by wearing black. today, wearing a black shirt means “enough.” and those people in power must be aware that there are people like us who disdain their evil.
visit your nearest MRT station tomorrow. if you don’t give a shit, at least listen to the bands. these artists have something to say, too.
